Operation: Save Poptart

Organized by Rescue Poptart from Kabul

A Heart-Felt Thank You
I just woke up a few minutes ago (12hr difference from the West Coast) and I am so overwhelmed by the last 10 hours. It is truly amazing and a dream come true. Just know that there are still so many people out there who care and are willing to give a helping hand is unbelievable. Operating in a worn-torn country like Afghanistan, has a tendency to bring you down. Seeing dogs and other animals abused and roaming the streets, and knowing that you can't do anything to help them is a hard pill to swallow. Then a dog like Poptart comes along, and with all she has survived, are paths cross and all our lives change forever. She has beat all odds, and as I know all too well from living in Vegas, that's a one-in-a million. We are not lucky, we are fortunate and forever indebted to you and all the others who have made our dreams come true.

A heart-felt thank you from our family.

THE POPTART STORY

A message from Poptart:

My name is Poptart and I am currently in Kabul, Afghanistan. I have grown up here on my own for the past three years. About 6 months ago, some US Soldiers found me and have been taking care of me ever since. I spend a lot of time with them and we share a special bond together. Before they came, I would spend my days dodging the Afghans who constantly throw rocks at me. Now the Soldiers protect me and keep the bad guys away. Before, I would pick through piles of trash to get enough scraps to fill me up. Now the Soldiers bring me their leftovers and my belly has been full ever since. Before, I would spend cold winter nights looking for shelter. Now they have made me a dog house and filled it with blankets that keep me warm at night. I am so grateful to them for all they have done for me. They will be leaving in a few months to go back to the US and they would like me to go with them, but I need some help. They say it will cost $2500 for shipping and handling and to an Afghan dog, that's a lifetime of savings. If you know anyone who could help, I would forever be indebted. They have promised me a warm home and a happy life, if I can only find a way to get there.

Our take on it:

The day to day life in combat takes its toll on all Soldiers. We are no exception. The best part of every day here in Afghanistan, is knowing we can spend time with Poptart. She is more than a dog, she is a companion and a friend. She has brought joy to our lives and given us something to look forward to each and every day. She is always happy to see us and never leaves our side. It would break our hearts if we had to leave her here in Kabul. We are asking for your help to get her back to the US. Please consider giving a small donation. Your help would save her life and enrich ours.
